Real-world evidence
Read the record alongside the system.
A wiring diagram describes connections. A service report records a repair. The equipment shows its current condition. Looking at them together helps establish whether the record still reflects the system in use.
Tracing a repair also means asking who reported the issue, what the technician found, who authorized the work, and how completion was verified. Those relationships connect a physical event to the decisions and history around it.
Current state before future state
Establish how it works now.
Before deciding how a system should change, EIS compares what was intended, what is documented, and what happens in practice. Differences can reveal an outdated record, a necessary workaround, or a handoff that depends on one person’s memory. Understanding the difference gives improvement a sound starting point.
